Clouds and Cove was selected by the juror for the Art League of Alexandria's 2020 exhibit up from September 9 to October 4. This work is a white-line woodcut, known as a Provincetown Print as the method originated there. This was an art form I could create when Covid 19 stopped local open life sessions that I had been attending to paint figures and portraits. I used a photo as reference, carved the lines that would show as white, and then used watercolors to paint, section by section, as I rubbed the opposite side of the paper with a spoon as each section was painted.
I also have an oil on a wood panel, Landscape Layers and Lupines, hanging in the Gallery 75 section of the Art League Gallery at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, along with other oils and watercolors in the bins there.
Vaida has been included in an exhibition at the Highland House Museum of the Truro Historical Society- Reflections on the Pandemic, available for viewing by appointment. This oil portrait of our model was done in a Zoom session hosted by Cape artist Paul Schulenburg. Paul hosts a small group of artists at his studio on most Wednesday nights in the off season, to paint figures and portraits from models. While Covid 19 led to a halt in these sessions, later in the spring and early summer, Paul hosted sessions on Zoom, inviting some additional artists from the Cape and from across the country. While definitely not the same as the in- person studio sessions, either artistically or socially, they were a welcome opportunity to paint and to maintain connections with other artists on the Cape.
Walking Great Island, my first oil mixed with cold wax medium, is part of the Wellfleet Public Library's Isolation:Inspiration virtual exhibition, at https://www.wellfleetlibrary.org/isolationinspiration.
These oil paintings done plein air are all at The Gallery for Artwork-Woodwork-Stonework, at 4850 Route 6, Eastham.
